The topic of negotiations held on the 15^th of May, 2009 between the Director General of OOO “Stroycomplect-2” (Limited Liability Company), Mr. Yury Rekunov, and the Minister of Works and Transportation of the Republic of Uganda, Mr. John Byabagambi, was reconstruction of a railway network in the Republic of Uganda with the view of improvement of its traffic capacity. The existing railway network was constructed in 1906 and does not fit for modern types of traction and carriages.  

Therefore the Minister of Works and Transportation of the Republic of Uganda displayed a great interest in exploitation of 1520-millimiter railway tracks (Russian standard). He pointed out that the fact that railway service is Russia’s most popular and the cheapest type of freight transportation should be a special focus.  

To follow up the meeting and with the view of reconstruction of the existing railway network the parties arrived at the conclusion to examine the matters of designing, construction and exploitation of a 1520- millimeter railway track in Uganda in a more detail.
